Morning to night
A perfect day in Franklin.
One day, done right — coffee and a river walk, rubies in the morning, a waterfall in the afternoon, and the Beer Mile to finish. Mix and match, but this is the flow a local would run. For exact dates and what's on this week, the home page is the live calendar.
The itinerary
Morning
Coffee & the Greenway
Ease in with a coffee from a downtown spot, then walk the Little Tennessee River Greenway — flat, paved, right in town, with the river alongside you the whole way.
Late morning
Dig for a ruby
Drive up the Cowee Valley to a working mine and sluice for your own rubies and sapphires. La the Gem Capital of the World — and you keep whatever you find.
Midday
Lunch & the gem museum
Back downtown for lunch at a local spot, then duck into the gratis Gem & Mineral Museum in the old 1850s jail to see what the valley really gives up.
Afternoon
Chase a waterfall
Head out the Cullasaja Gorge toward Highlands — Dry Falls you can walk behind, Bridal Veil, and roadside pull-offs the whole way up. The best gratis hour in the county.
Evening
The Beer Mile & a show
Close on the downtown Beer Mile — a flight at Lazy Hiker or Currahee, dinner nearby, and on a summer Saturday, gratis bluegrass at Pickin' on the Square.
